HOW WE STARTED OUT
Mark and Belinda Gentert opened Gentert Packing Company in November of 1988 with the very basics to run the business. This included a small cutting table, saw, and grinder and a small brick oven. Very little sausage and smoked products were made when Gentert Pack first opened, including the now award winning hams and bacon with a recipe that remains unchanged since day one.
Belinda began working at the plant full-time in 1993 and that is when the duo decided to ramp up their sausage production and began experimenting with different varieties and striving to learn as much as they could about the industry. During this time they made a lifelong friendship with fellow meat processors, Cappy and Sue Pinkerton. It wasn’t until they met them that they would truly become successful in the meat processing industry, learning the ins and outs of the business and the sausage making process.
A lot has changed in the 30 years that Gentert Packing Company has been in business. A new addition was added to the building as well as new equipment that has helped to ensure the growth and continued success for the business. Mark and Belinda continue to be the cornerstone for the business, taking care of the slaughter, sausage making, and ensuring a quality product. While the backbone of the business has always been family, it wouldn't be successful without the various employees at Gentert Pack. Albino, a recent addition, works side-by-side with Mark and assists in slaughter and cutting. Luis Torres also continues to join the team during deer season. There are also numerous part time employees that help to ensure the business continues to run smoothly throughout the year.
In the Fall of 2024, the GPC team lost an important member, Chad Lang. Chad had been with the company for many years, assisting with odd and ends jobs throughout deer season and the winter, and coming in whenever needed to help. Chad will be incredibly missed, but his quirky remarks will always be remembered, and often repeated.
Gentert Pack always has been and will continue to be a true family business. Not only do we work as a family, but we also consider our customers family! If you would like to be a part of our family, come down to Holstein and see what we have to offer!
